SINGAPORE: A netizen recently shared a humorous yet cautionary tale about their fragile luggage experience. Posting on Facebook on April 10, the individual recounted a travel nightmare, warning others to think twice before buying cheap suitcases from certain stores. Despite the mishap, the airline had compensated them with a replacement.

The netizen shared photos of the damaged suitcase, which had cracked during its first use. “Not everyone can afford $200 to $1,000 luggage,” they explained, adding that the issue was with a suitcase bought from Valu$, a store known for budget goods. The suitcase, carrying just 11kg, first had a wheel crack on the way to the airport, and after one flight, the entire suitcase—including two more wheels—was completely damaged.

Amusingly, the post ended on a positive note with “Hilarious!” as the traveler took the incident in stride.

Many commenters advised investing in sturdier, higher-quality luggage, with one user pointing out, “Sometimes it’s better to splurge on an expensive yet sturdy luggage over a cheap one that will break when handlers toss it around.” Others poked fun at the situation, calling the damaged suitcase “art created by airport staff” and suggesting it was “fancy only for hand carry.”

Despite the mishap, the netizen’s lighthearted response served as a reminder to balance cost and quality when selecting travel gear.
