A new hospital is set to be constructed in Tengah, with an anticipated completion in the early 2030s, as announced by Minister for Health Ong Ye Kung during the Committee of Supply debates on Mar. 6.
This new facility will support the growing healthcare needs in the West, joining other recent developments such as Woodlands Health in the North, Singapore General Hospital’s expansion in the Central area, and an upcoming hospital in Bedok North for the East. It will also complement Tengah’s planned polyclinic, which is expected to open by 2025.
Minister Ong emphasized that Tengah, as an “emerging population center,” requires increased healthcare infrastructure, and the new hospital will work in conjunction with existing facilities in the West. It will be managed by the National University Health System.
This project is part of Singapore’s broader healthcare expansion strategy, which aims to increase public hospital bed capacity. By 2030, the goal is to add 4,000 beds to the current 11,000. Key projects supporting this goal include the continued expansion at Woodlands Health, Sengkang General Hospital, and Outram Community Hospital, along with the Singapore General Hospital Elective Care Centre, set to open in 2027 with 300 beds, and the phased redevelopment of Alexandra Hospital from 2028 to 2029.
