SINGAPORE – Starting Jan 3, 2023, every Singaporean household will receive $300 in Community Development Council (CDC) vouchers. Half of the vouchers can be spent at participating hawkers and heartland merchants, while the other half is for use at participating supermarkets.

These vouchers will be distributed under the CDC scheme, which will be launched by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Lawrence Wong. Further details about the distribution will be shared soon, according to a press statement released by the CDCs and People’s Association on Tuesday.

In the meantime, Singaporean households have the option to donate the remaining balance of their 2021 and 2022 CDC vouchers to charities. These vouchers, which expire on Dec 31, can be donated as cash through the CDC Vouchers Scheme website.

The CDCs and People’s Association reported that 1.2 million households claimed their 2021 vouchers, while 1.16 million households collected their 2022 vouchers—representing 98% and 95% of all Singaporean households, respectively. Around 90% of the distributed vouchers have already been spent at approximately 20,000 participating hawkers and merchants.

Singaporeans can pledge the remaining amount of their 2021 and 2022 CDC vouchers to charity until Jan 31, 2023. Donated vouchers will be converted into cash for the charities, and tax deductions for the Year of Assessment 2024 may be applicable based on the charity’s policies.

In response to feedback, the CDCs are offering this donation option to help those in need, especially given concerns over rising living costs. Ms. Low Yen Ling, chairman of the Mayors’ Committee and Mayor of South West District, expressed her appreciation for the generous spirit of Singaporeans, saying, “I am touched by the selfless spirit of Singaporeans who uplift one another in tough times. Our strong sense of solidarity and resilience will help us weather challenges and forge ahead together as one nation.”

To donate or claim the vouchers, Singaporeans may visit vouchers.cdc.gov.sg.
