A Singaporean woman, Cecilia, was startled awake at 3 a.m. to find an unexpected intruder in her hotel room at Johor Bahru’s KSL Hotel & Resort. Sharing her experience on TikTok on Nov. 15, Cecilia recounted how she was awakened by the sound of someone entering her room and shining a phone flashlight on her, only to claim he’d entered the wrong room before exiting.
“I’ll never return to this hotel,” said the 35-year-old, explaining that she, her husband, and their 21-month-old child were asleep when the incident happened. Initially, she heard noises near the door and then saw a man inside, his face obscured but lit by a faint glow from the bathroom. Startled, she shouted, prompting the man to flash his phone’s camera light at them before quickly leaving.
When they reported the incident to hotel management the following morning, Cecilia was told that the hotel’s CCTV cameras hadn’t recorded anything unusual. As an apology, the hotel upgraded their room for the remainder of their stay. Cecilia noted, “It felt bizarre and definitely unsafe, but thankfully we’re okay and didn’t lose anything.”
In response to Cecilia’s video, which has gathered over 290,000 views, commenters advised travelers to secure their doors before sleeping. Suggestions ranged from using chairs or luggage as extra barricades to makeshift latches like clothes hangers. One commenter added, “Always lock and latch your room door before sleep,” as a precaution.
