SINGAPORE: More than three in five Singaporeans are willing to work overseas, with young professionals under 30 showing the strongest interest, according to the Decoding Global Talent 2024 report by Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and its partners. The report, based on over 150,000 responses from 188 countries, reveals that 64% of Singaporean respondents are open to pursuing international job opportunities.

Among preferred destinations, Singaporeans chose Australia first, followed by Japan and China, reflecting an attraction to countries with advanced economies and strong tech sectors. Younger Singaporeans, especially those under 30, are particularly keen, with 72% expressing a willingness to relocate, aligning with the global average of 73%. However, most Singaporeans prefer short-term assignments abroad, aiming to return home after achieving specific career goals.

For those considering relocation, financial benefits are the primary motivator, with 64% citing economic factors. Additionally, 56% are motivated by the potential for unique work experience. Support from employers is also highly valued, with 84% expecting assistance with housing, 81% with visas and work permits, and 77% with cultural adaptation resources.
