CHENGDU, CHINA — After his arrival in Chengdu on January 16 and a 30-day quarantine, panda cub Le Le is now settling into his new home at the China Conservation and Research Centre for the Giant Panda. Recently, the centre, situated 1,200 meters above sea level, shared an adorable video on Douyin of Le Le exploring snow for the first time.
In the clip, one of Le Le’s keepers brings a bucket of snow into his enclosure, along with a treat of bamboo shoots. True to panda nature, Le Le indulged in the bamboo before turning his attention to the snow, curiously pawing and nibbling at it.
The conservation center, located on Huaying Mountain, recorded temperatures as low as 2°C, and Le Le is still adjusting to the cold. To accommodate him, his outdoor activities have been limited, and his keepers provided some indoor snow for enrichment.
Le Le’s Background
Le Le’s journey back to China is part of an international panda conservation effort. Born in Singapore to pandas Jia Jia and Kai Kai, who arrived under a ten-year agreement in 2012, Le Le is the first panda cub born in Singapore. As per conservation agreements, foreign-born cubs return to China around two years old to support breeding and conservation programs.
