“The Public Utilities Board (PUB) has dismissed a viral video circulating on social media that appears to show a flooded car park in Singapore, confirming that the footage is from 2024 and unrelated to recent weather conditions.
The clarification follows two consecutive days of heavy rainfall across the island due to a monsoon surge.
In a Facebook update on 20 March, PUB acknowledged the resurfacing of old clips depicting previous flooding incidents in Singapore. One widely shared video, originally posted in 2024, shows a basement car park submerged in water.
PUB explained that this specific incident occurred on 4 May 2024 at The Twins condominium on Balmoral Crescent. The flooding was caused by a malfunctioning valve in the basement’s sprinkler system, not by extreme weather.
“”We urge the public to refrain from sharing outdated videos of past flooding without confirming their accuracy and timing, as this can create unnecessary confusion or alarm,”” PUB stated.
Misleading Video Circulation
The video in question, initially shared on the SG Road Vigilante Facebook page last year, depicts an individual wading through knee-deep water in a basement car park. The footage has since been mistakenly linked to the recent downpours in Singapore.
Monsoon Surge Brings Heavy Rain
According to the Meteorological Service Singapore, a surge of north-easterly winds over the South China Sea—known as a monsoon surge—has been affecting the region between 19 and 21 March 2025.
Rain has persisted across Singapore since the morning of 19 March, with temperatures dropping significantly. On 20 March, Tuas South recorded a low of 21.9°C at 10:02 am, while Newton saw temperatures of 22.4°C.
PUB continues to monitor weather conditions and advises residents to stay informed through official channels.”
