SINGAPORE: A frustrated resident has taken to social media to highlight persistent water leakage and mold problems in her home, despite reaching out to the Town Council, Housing Development Board (HDB), and her area’s Member of Parliament (MP).
Ms. Ting Lim shared that her house was renovated in late 2020, but a leak soon appeared. Over time, the issue has worsened, with mold forming and concerns that her vinyl flooring, wardrobe, and paint may be damaged.
In her post, Ms. Ting expressed her distress after a recent downpour left a large puddle of water in one room and further affected the ceiling of her common toilet. She pointed out that the root cause seems to be external, as the leaks originate from the ceiling and external walls.
She shared photos of the damage and sought advice from netizens, many of whom empathized with her situation. Some suggested the external wall waterproofing might be compromised, while others advised her to take a more direct approach, such as visiting the Town Council or attending a Meet-the-People session with her MP, Dr. Koh Poh Koon, MP for Tampines Central.
Netizens shared similar experiences and offered solutions, including direct visits to the Town Council, face-to-face meetings with MPs, and pushing for action under the Defects Liability Period (DLP) for new flats.
The Independent Singapore has contacted Ms. Ting and Tampines Town Council for further comment.
