Singapore is set to experience drier weather during the final week of 2024, offering a potential break from the recent rainy pattern. According to the Meteorological Services Singapore’s latest advisory, while afternoon thundery showers may occur sporadically throughout the week, the overall trend will be significantly drier compared to earlier in December.
The expected weather conditions are attributed to a brief strengthening of northerly winds, which will bring windy spells and occasional light showers over the coming days. However, the total rainfall across the last fortnight of December is projected to be below average for most areas of the island.
Daily maximum temperatures will likely range from 32°C to 34°C on most days, with a possibility of slightly exceeding 34°C in the afternoons on a few occasions.
The first half of December saw a combination of heat and rain, with the most significant rainfall recorded on December 3. Heavy thundery showers brought a daily total of 109.6mm of rain in Bedok on that day. Additionally, several days saw maximum daily temperatures reach 34°C or higher, with the hottest day recorded at Paya Lebar on December 7, reaching 36.2°C. This surpassed the previous record for the highest daily temperature in December—35.9°C in Seletar in 2016.
Some areas of Singapore reported less rainfall than average during this period, with Ulu Pandan experiencing rainfall 82% below the average levels, while Tai Seng saw an increase of 8%.
Despite these fluctuations, the forecast suggests a calmer, less rainy end to 2024, with temperatures remaining warm and winds adding a breezy element to the climate.
