Singapore has initiated its first-ever island-wide Total Defence exercise, Exercise SG Ready, officially launched on Thursday (Feb. 15) by Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. The event, held on Total Defence Day at South Bridge Tower, encourages Singaporeans to ask themselves, “Are you ready for disruptions?” as the nation braces for simulated crises through Feb. 29.
The exercise includes participation from over 500 organizations across sectors, simulating various attacks and threats—cyberattacks, disinformation, and drone incursions—designed to strengthen crisis preparedness. For example, schools will experience simulated power and food supply disruptions, with emergency provisions distributed, while prominent buildings like the Treasury and Supreme Court will dim their lights to mimic blackouts.
This 40th commemoration of Total Defence Day also saw Minister for Defence Dr. Ng Eng Hen highlight global threats in the Middle East and Asia, emphasizing the necessity for constant vigilance. “What happened on Feb. 15, 1942…will not happen again,” said Dr. Ng.
Further details on Exercise SG Ready and schedules for disruptions are available on the SGReadygowhere website.
