In a commanding display, Singapore’s national women’s football team defeated Macau 9-0 in a friendly match at Jalan Besar Stadium on July 16, 2024. This marks their largest win in over a decade, outshining their previous high in a 6-0 victory against the Maldives in 2007. Currently ranked 138th in the world, the Lionesses overwhelmed Macau, ranked 174th, with sheer precision and strategy.

Just before the halftime whistle, Putri Syaliza added another goal, taking the score to 2-0.
Five minutes into the second half, Venetia Lim scored a beautiful free-kick, swiftly followed by a goal from Danelle Tan.
Team captain Siti Rosnani Azman brought fans to their feet with a long-range goal from 40 meters.
Danelle Tan scored twice more in quick succession, securing a hat-trick.
Syaliza added her second in the 84th minute, and newcomer Kyla Taylor capped the victory with a long-range shot in stoppage time.
Praising the team’s effort, head coach Karim Bencherifa expressed pride in their performance: “The players gave everything on the field, showing the growth of women’s football in Singapore.”

Player-of-the-Match Danelle Tan, who scored a hat-trick, said it was an honor to play for Singapore and praised the team’s unity and dedication. With sights set on the upcoming ASEAN tournament and the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand, the Lionesses aim to build on this historic performance to reach even greater heights.
