Singapore has announced its fourth humanitarian aid shipment to Gaza, comprising 300 tonnes of sardines and 1,000 tonnes of rice, addressing the region’s urgent food insecurity. Minister for Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan shared in a press release on July 22 that the country’s continued support aims to alleviate hardships faced by Gaza’s residents.
This latest aid installment will be transported through Cyprus, in collaboration with the UAE and Cypriot authorities. The supplies will travel by commercial sea freight to Larnaca, Cyprus, before reaching Gaza for distribution. “Singapore’s commitment to assist those in need remains unwavering,” said Minister Balakrishnan, emphasizing the importance of swift and effective aid distribution.
With this latest effort, Singapore and its citizens have now donated more than S$17 million for Gaza, including significant amounts from local organizations such as the Rahmatan Lil Alamin Foundation and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). The contributions include funds and essential supplies, reflecting a broad base of public support in Singapore for Gaza’s civilians.
In addition, Singapore has maintained an active presence in the region, with prior medical support missions and successful food deliveries coordinated with Jordan and Egypt. As the conflict reaches a critical juncture, Singapore’s government also advocates for a humanitarian ceasefire, hoping it will provide immediate relief and contribute to lasting peace.
