A Singaporean guest, known as “Mask Crusader,” who was recorded ranting at a staff member of the Doulos Phos The Ship Hotel in Bintan, has responded to the controversy by sharing his perspective with Stomp.

In his email, he aimed to provide a “more complete and accurate picture” of the events that unfolded. He pointed out that the individual who recorded the video, a Caucasian man named Dan Wilkinson, had misrepresented the situation. According to Mask Crusader, Dan and his family were not in the hotel lobby for breakfast, as Dan claimed, but instead loitered there while breakfast was served in a separate building.

Mask Crusader alleged that Dan’s intent was to embarrass his family by filming their interaction without consent, and he has since lodged a police report regarding the incident.

He explained that the confrontation escalated when hotel staff knocked on his door at 3 AM, despite him having put a “Do Not Disturb” sign on it. His mother had already returned to their room, and he felt the staff should have waited until morning to address any concerns.

The situation worsened when he attempted to film the aggressive behavior of the hotel owner, who allegedly smashed his phone out of his hands. Mask Crusader claimed that after the incident, the hotel owner ordered security to physically remove him from the lobby, even though his elderly parents and young child were present.

He expressed his disappointment with the hotel’s handling of complaints and the lack of accountability regarding service disruptions, such as a power outage that occurred earlier during their stay.

After Stomp’s report, Dan contacted the publication to refute some of Mask Crusader’s claims, asserting that he had not been posting videos across multiple social media platforms as alleged. He clarified that he only maintained a single TikTok account.
