What was supposed to be a routine trip to Johor Bahru (JB) turned into a traumatic ordeal for 40-year-old Singaporean businessman Mr. Lin and his family, as he heroically attempted to save his seven-year-old son from an attempted kidnapping on Dec. 12. Lin sustained several injuries, including abrasions on his arms and face and the loss of two teeth, while trying to thwart the kidnappers.
The family was in JB’s Taman Pelangi area looking at workshops when Lin’s son was snatched by an unknown man who forced the boy into a gold-colored car. CCTV footage shows Lin’s son playing outside the workshop just moments before being taken. As soon as his daughter alerted him, Lin sprang into action, using his car to block the kidnappers’ path. Despite his efforts to open their locked car door, Lin was thrown off as the car sped away. He later found the vehicle abandoned a few kilometers away, with his son unharmed inside.
Lin reported the incident to the Malaysian police and identified the man seen near the workshop before the kidnapping as his business partner. Lin believes the motive was financial. The partner was detained, though three other accomplices remain at large. Lin also reported the incident to the Singapore police upon his return and shared his story publicly, hoping to bring those involved to justice.
For Singaporeans facing trouble in JB, the Consulate-General is available for assistance, with details accessible online or via their emergency contact after hours.
