SINGAPORE – Muslim Singaporeans performing the Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca are reportedly in good health, according to the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS). As of June 20, MUIS has not received any assistance requests from Singaporean pilgrims. However, MUIS has strongly urged them to stay hydrated and take precautions amid reports of intense heatwaves affecting Saudi Arabia.
The pilgrimage has seen extreme temperatures of up to 49°C in Mecca, with hundreds of deaths and thousands of cases of heatstroke reported among the millions of pilgrims. To help mitigate the risk of heatstroke, MUIS has advised Singaporean pilgrims to schedule activities in the early morning or evening when temperatures are lower.
With around 900 Singaporeans performing the Hajj this year, MUIS continues to monitor the situation closely and encourages all pilgrims to remain vigilant about their health and safety.
