SINGAPORE – “A full year of job applications, endless interviews leading nowhere, and rejection emails that all start to look the same.” This is how one jobseeker from Singapore expressed his frustration on Reddit’s AskSingapore forum on Saturday (Feb 15).

Reflecting on his challenging journey, he shared that he spent the past year trying to stay hopeful, constantly telling himself that perhaps the next week or month would bring good news. However, as time went on, maintaining that optimism became increasingly difficult. “The uncertainty now feels overwhelming,” he admitted.

He revealed that he explored every possible avenue, including attending career fairs, connecting with professionals on LinkedIn, and enrolling in upskilling courses to enhance his employability. Despite his perseverance and dedication, he remains unemployed.

He expressed his frustration about being ignored by some companies, while others ceased communication after the second interview. “Even entry-level roles require 3-5 years of experience… but how can you gain experience when no one gives you a chance?” he questioned.

His difficulties only continued to grow as his savings dwindled, and the increasing gap in his résumé made him anxious about future job prospects. He also felt the pressure from his social circle. “Friends have moved forward in their careers. Family members ask, ‘Still no job?’ with a mix of concern and disappointment. I avoid gatherings now—it’s easier than explaining the same situation repeatedly,” he shared. Finally, he asked the online community, “Is anyone else going through this? Life feels bleak.”
