The red and green gable end walls of a block in Tampines N4 Neighbourhood Centre will be repainted primarily in white after several residents complained about intense color reflections, announced Member of Parliament (MP) for Tampines GRC, Baey Yam Keng, in a recent Facebook post.

One resident’s email described the red wall’s reflection as “bloody,” while others raised similar concerns about a green reflection from a nearby wall. After discussions with the painting contractor, the town council decided to repaint both walls mainly in white, retaining red and green side beams for each respective block.

Feedback on Aeroplane Design
Some residents also raised concerns over the aeroplane-themed design on the blocks, which one resident felt resembled missiles and bombs. MP Baey, after discussing with residents and grassroots leaders, confirmed the decision to keep the original design concept inspired by a nostalgic aeroplane board game.

In July 2023, residents had been invited to vote on three proposed designs, with around 80% favoring the board game theme. Baey emphasized that the majority support for the chosen design, funded by Service & Conservancy Charges (S&CC), made it financially unsound to make changes now.

Baey has explained the decision to the resident who shared concerns and hopes for understanding regarding the block’s design choice.
