Passengers aboard Scoot flight TR469 from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore were left frustrated and uncomfortable after experiencing multiple delays due to a technical issue. The flight, initially scheduled to depart at 7:10 PM on Saturday, December 28, did not take off on time, and passengers were asked to disembark twice due to the ongoing issue.
Jason Tan, one of the passengers, explained that after the plane failed to depart an hour later, the air conditioning was not functioning, making it difficult to breathe. The crew later informed passengers that a technical issue had been identified, and everyone was required to leave the plane. About an hour later, passengers were allowed to board again, with an updated departure time of 11:30 PM.
However, the plane remained grounded until midnight, and passengers were once again told to disembark due to the unresolved issue. Tan described the situation as chaotic, with passengers being offered two options: to cancel their tickets and receive a refund or to wait for the airline to arrange accommodations and a new flight.
Steven Kang, another passenger on the flight, shared his frustration in a Facebook post, describing the flight as “the worst ever”. He stated that the lack of ventilation on board made it unbearable, with some passengers struggling to breathe while waiting. Kang, who opted to wait for the next flight, updated that his rescheduled flight was initially set for 1 PM on Sunday but didn’t take off until around 5 PM. He noted that it took 23 hours to complete what should have been a one-hour flight.
In a response to the incident, Scoot confirmed that the delay was due to a technical problem with the aircraft and the need to source spare parts, which caused the flight to miss its scheduled departure. The airline apologised for the inconvenience and stated that affected passengers were provided with accommodation, transportation, and meal arrangements during the delays.
The flight finally departed Kuala Lumpur at 4:42 PM on December 29 and arrived in Singapore at 6:13 PM. Scoot has since promised to refund passengers who chose to cancel their tickets, though details about compensation were not fully outlined.
