A teenager in Singapore was arrested under the Internal Security Act (ISA) for planning terrorist attacks, including bombing an army camp and stabbing individuals he identified as “disbelievers.” The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) revealed that the youth, who was radicalized online, had developed extremist beliefs and was plotting violent actions against his fellow citizens.
The teen, whose identity has not been disclosed, became influenced by radical content on social media platforms and developed intentions to conduct attacks inspired by terrorist groups. According to MHA, he had conducted extensive online research on how to carry out attacks and even tried to obtain materials to create bombs.
Among his plans was an attempt to bomb an army camp and carry out stabbing attacks on civilians in public places. The youth specifically targeted “disbelievers,” referring to individuals he deemed opposed to his extremist ideology. His plans were intercepted before any actions could be taken, and the authorities moved swiftly to arrest him.
The MHA emphasized the growing danger of online radicalization, which has become a prominent method for terrorist organizations to recruit and influence vulnerable individuals. The teen had engaged with various online platforms that facilitated his radicalization, leading to his violent intent.
Since his arrest, the authorities have been working with the teen and his family to rehabilitate him through the local counter-radicalization program. The case highlights the ongoing threat of extremism in Singapore and the importance of remaining vigilant against online content that promotes violence and hate.
This incident serves as a reminder of the broader efforts needed to counteract radicalization, including community outreach and education, as well as the need for continued monitoring of online platforms to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
