The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has downgraded the hygiene grade of The Line Restaurant at Shangri-La Hotel from an “A” to a “C”, effective from Sep. 8, 2023.
This downgrade comes after 10 individuals reported symptoms of gastroenteritis after consuming food prepared at the restaurant located at Orange Grove Road on Dec. 26, 2022. Two of those affected were hospitalised.
Following the incident, the Ministry of Health and SFA conducted a joint investigation. While no hygiene lapses were identified during an inspection on Dec. 30, 2022, SFA has decided to take enforcement action against the restaurant for selling unclean food.
The Line’s downgraded hygiene grade will be subject to review in 12 months, and the establishment will remain under surveillance during this period.
SFA also reminded food business operators of the importance of maintaining good food safety practices, stating: “Good hygiene practices, such as washing hands before handling food, can greatly reduce the incidence of gastroenteritis when adopted by all key stakeholders, including the industry and public.”
A disclaimer in SFA’s release added: “The information provided on this website should not be used as a basis for any legal proceedings. Neither SFA nor any of its employees involved in the supply of the above information shall be liable for any loss or damage suffered by any member of the public by reason of any error or omission of whatever nature appearing therein or however caused.”
