Toast Box has introduced another round of price adjustments across its menu, less than a year after the last hike. In response to queries from AsiaOne, a Toast Box spokesperson confirmed on Thursday (Aug 28) that the adjustments, effective since July 31, are due to rising ingredient and operational costs. “These revisions are necessary for us to adapt to the current economic landscape while maintaining our commitment to quality,” they added.
However, the increase hasn’t gone unnoticed by patrons. A Reddit user recently expressed frustration over a Traditional Kaya Toast Set priced at $7.40, calling it “ridiculous” for a small meal of toast, eggs, and coffee. Another commenter noted that the cost of one set could almost buy a tray of 30 eggs.
Prices appear to differ by location, with factors like rent and operating costs affecting set costs. For example, the Traditional Kaya Toast Set costs $6.70 at outlets in Tiong Bahru Plaza, Tampines 1, and Chinatown Point but goes up to $8.20 at the Marina Bay Sands outlet, a location popular with tourists.
While some diners expressed dismay, at least one Reddit user defended the price increase, noting that “overheads in the F&B industry are high.” They added, “If it seems too pricey, making it at home is always an option.”
