“A devastating accident in Johor has claimed the life of a seven-year-old Singaporean boy after he was ejected from a car during a collision with a lorry.
Authorities in Johor confirmed that the lorry driver, who did not possess a valid licence, tested positive for methamphetamine. The fatal crash occurred around 10:30 pm on Sunday (March 16) along Jalan Pantai, in the direction of Permas Jaya, according to Johor Baru (South) police chief Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat.
Accident Details
Preliminary investigations suggest that the 54-year-old lorry driver lost control of his vehicle, which then swerved into the opposite lane and crashed head-on into a Singapore-registered car.
The young victim was one of four passengers in the car, which was driven by his father, a man in his 40s. The impact of the crash caused the child to be thrown from the vehicle.
Emergency responders rushed the boy to a private hospital, but despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at approximately 3 am on Monday (March 17).
Other Passengers and Injuries
The boy’s mother, a two-year-old sibling, and an Indonesian domestic worker were also in the car at the time of the accident. While some sustained minor injuries and have since been discharged, the driver and a rear passenger remain under medical care at Sultan Ismail Hospital.
Police are currently investigating the lorry driver for multiple offences, including driving under the influence of drugs, operating a vehicle without a licence, and causing death while intoxicated.
Wreckage and Aftermath
Photographs released by law enforcement depict a severely damaged car with shattered windows and multiple dents. Additional images circulating online show the windscreen completely destroyed, highlighting the severity of the crash.
Authorities have urged drivers to exercise caution on the roads, reiterating the dangers of reckless driving and substance use behind the wheel.”
