SINGAPORE: A noteworthy figure appears to have joined the Workers’ Party (WP), as highlighted in Facebook photos shared by Mr. Nathaniel Koh from a recent walkabout at Marine Parade. Mr. Koh, who was part of the WP slate for Marine Parade GRC during the 2020 General Election, reported that the “Team Marine Blue” visited residents of Terang Bulan Ave in the Joo Chiat division.
Among the team members captured in the photos is Senior Counsel Harpreet Singh, who has garnered significant attention online, especially on Reddit, where the post was shared on August 13.
“Wah this one actual big fish,” commented one netizen. Another noted, “Harpreet is a Senior Counsel category of lawyer, so he’s one of the true best court lawyers in Singapore. He’s also very outspoken on social issues and has questioned PAP’s policies. IIRC he was one of the three senior counsels that acted against 377A. The fact that WP seems to have recruited him, and if he runs in the next GE, is huge for their party legitimacy.”
According to WhosWho Legal 2022, Harpreet is described as “one of the best litigators in the Singaporean space due to his impeccable dispute resolution practice” and has been ranked as a Global Thought Leader for Commercial Litigation in 2023. Similarly, the Chambers Asia Pacific 2022 edition highlights his “reputation as one of the strongest litigators in the market.”
Another user remarked, “This guy is a legitimate shark. Happy for WP!” One Redditor added, “WP landed a whale and a crucial minority candidate as well.”
Harpreet Singh’s LinkedIn biography indicates he is a member of Harvard Law School’s Leadership Council of Asia and has served on various Appeal Advisory Panels under multiple financial acts from 2019 to 2023. He also participates on the Disciplinary and Appeals Committees for SGX, the regulator of Singapore’s capital markets.
The Independent Singapore has reached out to the Workers’ Party for comment.
