“An eight-year-old boy was hospitalised after being struck by a van while crossing a road in Hougang. The accident, which occurred on the afternoon of 23 February at Lorong Ah Soo, reportedly happened when the child ran onto the road unexpectedly.

Boy Trapped Under Van
According to his mother, Nisa (a transliteration from Chinese), the family of five had been waiting at the pedestrian crossing when the boy suddenly broke free from her grip and dashed towards the road.

A witness described the shocking scene, recalling how the child ended up trapped under the van with “”one hand sticking out.”” His mother, confused and shaken, mentioned that her husband had already crossed the road when the incident occurred.

Despite his distress, the boy eventually crawled out from under the vehicle on his own. His mother said, “”He was terrified, crying and shouting, but he managed to get out by himself.””

Sister Also Injured
In the chaos, the boy’s older sister ran after him and sustained a minor foot fracture. The eldest sibling, who witnessed the accident, remained in shock.

Despite the frightening ordeal, Nisa expressed no ill feelings towards the van driver. “”I know it was my children’s mistake. I don’t blame the driver. What matters most is that they are safe,”” she stated.

Crowd and Rescue Efforts
A local resident, identified as Chen, reported that more than 50 onlookers gathered at the scene after the accident. Some suggested lifting the van to free the boy, but he managed to get out before any intervention was needed.

Bystanders provided support to the distressed family, with some using umbrellas to shield the injured boy from the rain while others comforted his crying sisters.

Emergency responders from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) arrived shortly after to administer first aid. The boy and his mother were transported to hospital, while a member of the public arranged a taxi for the father and daughters.

Boy Recovering, Police Investigating
Reports indicate that the child suffered a deep cut requiring stitches, along with a leg wound, but no broken bones. He remains under observation in hospital.

The Singapore Police Force confirmed they were alerted to the incident and are currently conducting investigations.”
