A Singaporean Reddit user recently shared a surprising experience involving a government-related survey conducted at their home, which focused on young adults in their twenties. The questions touched on respondents’ satisfaction with various government actions, including social issues and even Singapore’s handling of relations with the US and China.

The Redditor, who posted about the encounter on July 9 in the r/askSingapore forum, initially expected the survey would come from a company like IPSOS, a known public opinion firm. Instead, the survey was conducted by a representative from Ascentiq, an independent research company based in Singapore. Notably, the user mentioned there was no financial incentive to participate, but they decided to assist the surveyor out of goodwill.

The survey included topics such as the cost of living, inflation, healthcare services and subsidies, immigration, confidence in the government, transportation connectivity, neighborhood amenities, and satisfaction with public services like the police and judiciary.

Unexpectedly, the survey also asked about views on Singapore’s foreign policy and relations with both China and the United States. Respondents were prompted to rate their opinions on a scale of 1 to 10 regarding how well they believe the government manages these international relations.

Other users commented that they had also encountered surveys on similar government topics, often conducted by RySense, another local research firm, or by IPSOS. Some noted receiving incentives like NTUC vouchers.

The Independent Singapore has reached out to Ascentiq for comment on the survey’s objectives.
