“Singaporean YouTuber Tan Jianhao and his family were caught in a terrifying moment when powerful tremors shook their Bangkok hotel on 28 March, following a devastating earthquake in neighbouring Myanmar.

In an Instagram post, the 31-year-old content creator shared footage of himself navigating down the emergency staircase of the high-rise hotel while carrying his five-year-old daughter, Starley. The video captured visible cracks along the stairwell walls, with paint peeling from the surfaces.

“”Carrying my daughter down 21 storeys while experiencing a 7.7 magnitude earthquake was never on my bucket list,”” Jianhao wrote.

He described scenes of panic, with people screaming and rushing to evacuate the building. Once outside, hotel staff used a megaphone to organise guests and employees as they gathered safely on the pavement.

“”Grateful that we’re safe and thankful to Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok for managing the situation so well,”” he added.

Following the ordeal, Jianhao posted another video from inside a vehicle, where his daughter recounted the frightening experience. Starley recalled how the lamp in their room tilted and how water spilled from the hotel’s pool, likening it to a flood.

His Instagram post was met with messages of support from fellow influencers and celebrities, including Rebecca Lim, Bobby Tonelli, and Dione Tan. DJ and content creator Jade Rasif commented, “”Poor baby, she looks so scared.””

According to The Wall Street Journal, the earthquake has claimed over 2,000 lives in Myanmar. In Thailand, 18 fatalities have been reported, with 76 individuals still trapped under the rubble of a collapsed building in Bangkok.

Singapore has dispatched an 80-member team from the Civil Defence Force, along with four rescue dogs, to assist in search-and-recovery efforts in Myanmar.”
