An increasing number of Chinese parents are enrolling their children in schools in Southeast Asia, particularly in Singapore and Malaysia, according to a recent report. International schools in these countries are often more affordable and are affiliated with prestigious Western universities, making them an attractive option for many families.

The South China Morning Post (SCMP) highlighted that these schools provide an easier route for ensuring a quality education, especially compared to China’s highly competitive entrance exams for top universities, which don’t always guarantee future success.

As a result, many middle-class families in China are choosing to move overseas in search of better education for their children. While countries like the United States or Canada used to be the primary destinations, more families are now turning to Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand for their children’s schooling.

Netizens commenting on the SCMP article mentioned that safety concerns are another driving factor for families seeking education in Southeast Asia.

Others highlighted the challenges within China’s education system as a reason for this shift.

One commenter, however, argued, “Come on, China’s education is the best in the world.”

Another commenter lightheartedly suggested that this migration trend is part of a “stealth invasion.”

On Reddit, users noted that seeking an education in English is another key reason behind the growing trend of Chinese students studying in Southeast Asia.
