“Customers at Koufu food courts and coffee shops will soon notice a new pricing system at economy rice stalls, featuring colour-coded labels to indicate the cost of different dish types.
The initiative, a collaboration between the Consumers Association of Singapore (Case) and Koufu, was launched on Monday (March 24) at an outlet in Tengah. The system categorises dishes into four groups: seafood (blue), meat (red), vegetables (green), and premium items (white, with handwritten prices).
This move comes in response to frequent complaints from customers about unclear pricing at economy rice stalls. Case president Melvin Yong explained that many disputes arise due to a lack of visible price information, making it difficult for diners to anticipate the final cost of their meal.
Koufu’s chief financial officer, Chua Sher Lin, emphasised that the colour-coded labels would enhance transparency, benefiting both customers and stall operators by ensuring clear and consistent pricing.
The system will be progressively implemented at all 77 Koufu food courts and coffee shops by the end of 2025. Current pricing at participating outlets sets seafood dishes at $2.50, meat at $1.50, and vegetables at $1.
Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry Low Yen Ling attended the launch event and expressed hope that this initiative would set a standard for other economy rice stalls across Singapore.”
