Recently, Singapore was ranked as the happiest country in Asia, a headline that sparked my initial reaction of skepticism. While I am certainly content, I knew this topic would ignite lively discussions among Singaporeans, as happiness is inherently subjective.

As a young adult raised in Singapore, I have countless reasons to feel grateful—my supportive family, access to education, and the freedom to make my own life choices. Simple pleasures, such as snagging a good deal, enjoying quality family time, relishing delicious food, and collecting “Genshin Impact” merchandise, bring me joy. To gain further insight, I asked fellow Singaporeans via Instagram about their happiness triggers, and their responses echoed my sentiments.

What Makes Singaporeans Happy?
Food
It may be a cliché, but who doesn’t enjoy treating themselves or their loved ones to good food? Recently, I indulged in a craving for fried chicken by ordering a “Bundle for Two” from Wingstop during Grab’s Haha-half Off Sale, running from May 1 to 21. The bundle included:

7pc Boneless Wings (one flavor)
7pc Classic Wings (one flavor)
2 Ranch Dips
2 Large Cajun Fries
2 Coke Zero Sugar
For just S$20, half of the usual price, I couldn’t finish it alone, so I happily shared the meal with my family. Sharing truly is caring.
Spending Time with Family
Another common happiness factor among my peers was quality time with family. Over the weekend, I treated my family to one of our local favorites, OK Chicken Rice. The Megasale Bundle, perfect for three to four people, included:

2 Chicken Rice Bentos (Steamed/Roasted)
1 Curry Chicken with Potato (with your choice of Rice/Noodle/Porridge)
3 Clear Soups
1 Fatbulous Cutlet
1 Fatbulous Chicken Skin
3 500ml Drinks
Priced at S$26.70 on the Grab app, this set was a delightful 50% off its usual cost. My younger sisters were thrilled by the generous portions, and we all enjoyed catching up over the meal.
Self-Love
Amidst the emphasis on family, it’s important not to forget self-care. As a fan of Japanese cuisine, I decided to treat myself to the Mega Sale Bundle from Maki-san for lunch. This included:

Little San
Salmon Says / California Dreaming / Child’s Play
2 Drinks
All for just S$15.80, down from S$31.60. It was a welcome break from my usual routine of grabbing takeaway under the sun.
After a fulfilling dance practice in the evening, I indulged in Ben & Jerry’s Wake and No Bake Cookie Dough Core Pint, priced at S$7.50 after a 50% discount. After a productive day, I savored this delightful treat following a refreshing shower.

Going on Vacation
Finally, a popular response for boosting happiness was taking a vacation. Many Singaporeans believe that traveling can significantly enhance mental well-being, though not everyone can afford their dream getaway. Fortunately, Grab’s Haha-half Off Sale offers a chance to win a trip for two to Japan with every order placed. The more you order, the more chances you have—three chances if you’re a GrabUnlimited subscriber.

As someone who enjoys travel and gaming, this opportunity is not one to pass up!

More Grab Deals to Explore
I’ve shared some fantastic deals with 50% discounts, but there are plenty more merchants to discover during Grab’s Super Brand Days, which offer 40% discounts on select brands each Tuesday. GrabUnlimited users can enjoy additional savings, including up to 30% off at select merchants and S$3 off delivery.

While I might seem materialistic, there’s a certain joy in enjoying discounted items. The savings allow me to explore even more experiences that bring me happiness.
