SINGAPORE: Staff at the Utama Villa Tulamben resort in Bali made a grisly discovery on June 6 when they found the lifeless body of a six-week-old kitten, named Monkey, stuffed in a plastic bag that had been thrown over the resort’s boundary wall. The kitten, which the resort had adopted, was found with a cable tie tightened around its neck, indicating it had been strangled.
“This senseless act of cruelty has left us devastated,” the resort expressed in a Facebook post.
The incident unfolded after a Singaporean guest, a 31-year-old former nurse, was caught on CCTV searching for Monkey multiple times throughout the night of June 5. At 10:30 am, he was seen forcefully taking the kitten from a closed office at the resort.
When confronted by the staff, the man initially denied having taken the kitten but later admitted to it after being shown CCTV footage. He claimed that the kitten had run away, although this was not supported by any surveillance footage.
CCTV recordings revealed suspicious behavior, including a yellow bag being thrown from the man’s bedroom at 10:43 am on June 5, with no other individuals in the vicinity. The resort acknowledged that without conclusive evidence, they were unable to take further action against him.
The resort pointed out that the individual was a registered nurse who had worked in public hospitals in Singapore, raising serious concerns about his character. “It is deeply unsettling to think that someone entrusted with the care of others could also exhibit such callousness and cruelty towards animals,” they stated.
In addition to his nursing background, the man is also a Divemaster, which involves leading diving classes and assisting instructors. The resort’s dive guide reported troubling experiences with him, heightening concerns over the safety of those under his supervision.
The resort urged the public to exercise caution when interacting with this individual, highlighting the need for awareness regarding his integrity and ethical character.
