Grab has acquired the Singapore-based restaurant reservation platform Chope, marking an expansion into online reservation services across Southeast Asia. This acquisition includes taking over Chope’s operations in Singapore, Indonesia, and Thailand, with Chope’s team joining Grab offices in these regions within the coming weeks.
A spokesperson for Grab highlighted the acquisition as part of an ongoing effort to support small and medium-sized food and beverage (F&B) businesses on their platform. Chope’s tools are expected to bring additional “online-to-offline” capabilities, which help streamline operations and attract diners to physical venues.
Chope’s founder, Arrif Ziaudeen, shared that after assessing multiple potential buyers, Grab emerged as the most suitable partner. Ziaudeen noted that the competitive market environment called for new partnerships to ensure sustainable growth. Chope’s decision to join forces with Grab aligns with the latter’s objective to broaden its offerings, especially after acquiring and relaunching the food site HungryGoWhere in 2022 to solidify its position as a key player in the F&B recommendation space.
