“As Qi Yuwu and Joanne Peh mark a decade since their wedding in 2014, they’ve opened up about the challenges and growth they’ve experienced in their marriage. The couple, who have remained relatively private about their relationship, shared candid moments on the reality travel show Camping Around the World, revealing how their early years of marriage were fraught with frequent and intense arguments.
Recalling their tumultuous early years, Yuwu, 48, described the heated nature of their disagreements. “”We fought so fiercely back then, it was the kind of heart-wrenching arguments that stayed with us,”” he confessed. Joanne, 41, added that their clashes were often triggered by his reluctance to open up. “”You even said, ‘If I have to say it out loud then it’s meaningless’,”” she pointed out, reflecting on the misunderstandings that arose from his reserved nature.
Yuwu also spoke about his pragmatic view of marriage. “”We have our sweet moments, but there will always be times when we argue. I hope for happiness, but it doesn’t always go as planned,”” he shared. However, he noted that both of them had grown more mature and tolerant over the years, allowing them to handle disagreements with less intensity and more understanding.
Joanne, too, opened up about her sensitivity to Yuwu’s moods, admitting that even the smallest change in his expression would make her worry. Yet, she acknowledged that they’ve made strides in understanding each other, noting how Yuwu now knows the importance of communicating his feelings rather than bottling them up.
In a touching exchange, Yuwu expressed his desire to improve as a husband, saying, “”I want to be a better version of myself, to give you a better marriage and a better life.”” Joanne, in turn, reflected on the serendipity of their relationship. “”How did we meet, one from Guangzhou and one from Singapore?”” she mused, recalling how their paths crossed during their acting careers and how she initially hesitated to pursue a romantic relationship for fear of losing their friendship.
Despite the ups and downs, Joanne revealed that she feels “”blissful”” having found her life partner. “”It’s not easy to find the right person, but I feel very blessed because I’ve found that person,”” she said, with Yuwu adding, “”I feel the same way too.””
The couple agreed that the key to lasting happiness lies in not taking life too seriously and being able to share light-hearted moments. “”You need some non-functional things in life to have fun,”” Yuwu said, to which Joanne playfully responded, “”Don’t forget the humour.””
To mark their anniversary, Joanne surprised Yuwu with a heartfelt scrapbook chronicling their sweetest moments together. As they reflected on their journey, Joanne became emotional, sharing how they don’t have enough time together. “”Perhaps it’s because the future is unknown… I hope we can be together forever,”” she said, as Yuwu tenderly reassured her, reinforcing their commitment to each other.
