SINGAPORE: Friends, family, and neighbors are mourning the loss of Afifah Munirah Muhammad Azril, a bright and dedicated 17-year-old student from Temasek Junior College who tragically lost her life in a multi-vehicle accident on April 22, 2024, at Tampines Avenue 1 and Avenue 4. Known as a natural leader, Afifah had previously served as head prefect at Meridian Primary School, where she often inspired younger students.
Afifah was on her way to a college event with her father, Mr. Muhammad Azril, when the crash occurred, involving six vehicles and resulting in multiple injuries. Eight people were hospitalized, with Afifah and another individual, a 57-year-old woman, succumbing to their injuries.
One young neighbor recalled Afifah’s kindness and leadership, noting, “She was someone we all looked up to, always leading assemblies and setting an example.” Her father, an officer in the Police Coast Guard, survived but sustained serious injuries.
A friend of the family shared how he felt a jolt of sorrow upon recognizing the familiar black MPV in photos of the wreck. Another young neighbor, who would occasionally share the lift with Afifah, reflected sadly, “The last ‘hello’ I exchanged with her turned out to be the final one.”
Condolences from Afifah’s school community poured in, with flowers left at the accident site, marking the loss of a young life filled with promise.
